Our beard and mustache are handcrafted by skilled artisans using traditional techniques that have been preserved in our workshop for generations.

Each lock of curled yak hair (crepe hair) is individually knotted by hand onto an ultra-fine flesh-coloured cinematic lace. When applied with the professional cosmetic adhesive included in the package, the lace becomes virtually invisible against the skin, creating an exceptionally natural result.

The beard offers outstanding realism and freedom of movement, making it ideal for theatre, film, television, historical re-enactments and live performances.

Why We Use Yak Hair

Yak is a bovine native to the Tibetan plateau, prized for a fibre whose appearance and behaviour closely resemble human hair. For this beard and mustache we use naturally curled yak hair, traditionally known as crepe hair, to achieve an exceptionally realistic and lifelike appearance.

Yak hair has been used in wig-making since the seventeenth century, particularly for creating white wigs, beards and mustaches. At Filistrucchi we continue this centuries-old tradition, carefully selecting natural yak hair to produce handmade facial hair that combines historical authenticity with exceptional realism.

Its unique characteristics allow us to faithfully recreate historical and theatrical styles while providing a natural movement and texture that synthetic fibres cannot easily reproduce. Every hair is carefully worked by hand to achieve the highest level of realism.

This model is especially suitable for portraying the traditional Santa Claus, but it is equally perfect for a wide variety of historical, theatrical and cinematic characters thanks to the remarkable realism of natural yak hair and the craftsmanship that has distinguished our Florentine workshop since 1720.

Application and Removal Instructions

For your convenience, we have created a dedicated page on our website explaining how to correctly apply, remove and maintain the beard and mustache. Printed instructions are also included inside the package.

Each beard is supplied already styled exactly as shown in the photographs. To create its characteristic shape, we still use antique curling irons preserved in our workshop and heated over an open flame. These traditional tools, also known as Marcel irons, allow us to recreate authentic curls using techniques handed down through generations.

Whenever necessary, we can also create bespoke facial hair by taking a cast or model of your face, following the same professional methods used for theatre and film productions.
