Frederick Charles “Freddy” Krueger is a character of the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. He first appeared in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) as a burnt serial killer who uses a glove armed with razors to kill his victims in their dreams, causing their deaths in the real world as well. In the dream world, he is a powerful force and almost completely invulnerable. However, whenever Freddy is pulled into the real world, he has normal human vulnerabilities.
Freddy is a dream-demon who attacks his victims from within their dreams. He is commonly identified by his burned, disfigured face, red-and-green striped sweater, brown fedora, and trademark metal-clawed brown leather glove only on his right hand. This glove was the product of Krueger’s own imagination, the blade having been welded by himself. Other features include brown borsalino hat and horizontal dark green and red striped sweater unraveled at the margins.
Freddy also has some powers which can be used only in a dream world: can use telekinesis, also used against Jason Voorhees; can recompose his body and teleport from one place to another; he is able to change the dream (place, features and characters) to his liking, and also to transform: he generally takes on the appearance of people close to his victims, in order to terrorize them more. But it is also capable of transforming, even radically, its physical structure. Within certain limits, he can also act in reality: in the fourth film he kills a girl by burning her, and in reality there starts a fire; or when, in a macabre way, exploits a boy with a sleepwalking problem using it as a puppet. In reality the latter passes even through the walls. In the second film, after taking control of Jesse’s body, Fred shows that he can appear and disappear as he likes and influence the surrounding environment; may even make his murders appear accidental. Freddy can also control, albeit in a very cumbersome way, its skeleton, or what is left of him. Freddy can also control, albeit in a very cumbersome way, its skeleton, or what is left of him. He also has the ability to seize the bodies of others, power that he initially manifested in the second chapter of Nightmare to kill his victims, but which he will also use in Freddy Vs. Jason to destroy Hypnocyl and let his opponent fall asleep, by injecting him into a powerful somniferous.
